Does anybody know anything about this chess piece?
Some time ago I found this image of a chess piece on the internet. It had no place of origin, nor any other form of provenience attached to it. This is therefore a request: Does anyone know this chess piece?
From the form it is a rook. It may be old, but not likely medieval. Rooks of this type were only made in the Nordic countries during the Medieval Age. However, if it was made later, only the Faroese Islands and/or Iceland seem to be the likely place. It can of course be a modern “lookalike” of the Lewis chessmen.
